Dr. Holger Schmieding is a Chief Economist at Berenberg, Research Division since October 2010. He uses his insights in financial markets, academia and the IMF to comment on the global, European and German economic outlook. Since the end of 2009, he often focuses on the euro crisis. Prior to this, Dr. Schmieding was a Chief European Economist at BofA Merrill Lynch, Research Division from 2009 to 2010. Prior to this, he was a Chief Economist of Europe and Senior Strategist at Bank of America from 2002 till 2008. Previously, he was a Chief Economist of Europe from 1998 till 2001, and Financial Market Economist from 1994 till 1997 at Merrill Lynch. He has been a Desk Analyst and Senior Economic Advisor at International Monetary Fund from 1993. He has been the Head of Research group on East-Central Europe from Kiel Institute of World Economic from 1989 till 1992. He has been a Journalist from Westfälische Nachrichten from 1976 till 1978. He has earned the Forecaster of the year for the Financial Times Deutschland from 2011. He was also the best Analyst for the European Macroeconomics and Strategy by Extels Surveys in 2013, 2014 and 2015. He holds a Ph.D in Economics from University of Kiel since 1991.
